Epic Adventures Mendip 14k Trail race
Last Saturday saw me take to the Mendips on foot to compete in another trail race, 14 km of mixed terrain, woodland rooty climbs, stony trails, mega slippery, muddy single track all bound together with 468m of elevation, torrential rain and to say gusty winds would be an understatement.
I started at the back of the pack and over the first couple of kms worked my way towards the front, overtaking on the hills and holding my pace on the more level sections, I descended cautiously as didn’t want to risk slipping and picking up another injury.
On the final 2 Km I was overtaken and feeling I was lower down in the field than I was, didn’t empty the tank to give chase.
I crossed the line with a chip time of 1:28.23 finding out then that I was 4th, just over a minute behind 3rd.
But was 3rd in my age cat which started at 43 so all ahead of me were a fair chunk younger.
Straight after the finish line I was handed my medal and a rather good alcohol-free IPA, both of which went with me into the “obligatory” ice bath.
