Former Redruth bank to become Saint Piran Community Interest Centre

HSBC closed its Redruth branch in May 2017 as part of a wider closure of 62 branches across the UK, and for just shy of five years the building has stood vacant in the town centre. Now - thanks to a grant from Historic England to the Redruth High Street Heritage Action Zone (HSHAZ) scheme - Redruth Revival Community Interest Company and Cornwall Council plans are in place to redevelop this historic building to become the headquarters of the Saint Piran Cycling Community Interest Company. This will allow Saint Piran to promote cycling at all levels and become a centre for accessing on and off-road cycle routes and trails in Cornwall - a project entirely focused on community engagement.

Team owner Richard Pascoe said “This is an incredibly exciting moment for the newly established Saint Piran Cycling CIC and we are delighted to be working in partnership with Redruth HSHAZ and Redruth Revival to transform the former HSBC bank building in the town centre. We want to promote fitness, good nutrition, health, and wellbeing by encouraging a more active life. The Saint Piran brand has an international reach that we will use to attract business interest in Redruth, creating jobs and providing apprenticeship and training opportunities”.

This project will focus on job creation, community engagement and promoting cycling in Cornwall, carrying on the legacy of the Tour of Britain 2021, whilst restoring and reshaping the prosperity of Redruth’s town centre. The project also promotes sustainability as Saint Piran moves toward its net-zero target - putting communities and the environment at the heart of our future.

The cycle hub is expected to be launched in the Spring of 2024 once the Buttermarket redevelopment is complete.
