Our Story / History

Born on Cornish Roads

Saint Piran was founded with one clear ambition: to create a world-class professional cycling team rooted in Cornwall. What started as a small, determined group of riders soon grew into something extraordinary.

By 2019, Saint Piran Pro Cycling had already made its mark at the Ovo Energy Tour Series, finishing as the highest-placed Elite Team. Despite the setback of the 2020 season’s Covid-19 cancellations, the team’s determination didn’t falter. We stepped up to UCI Continental status at the end of that year, giving our riders the chance to compete on the UK and European stage.

Since then, Saint Piran has:

●     Competed in more than 30 races annually, including the HSBC National Series and major European classics.

●     Raced against World Tour and Pro Tour teams across the UK, France, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Estonia and the Netherlands.

●     Achieved podium finishes in over a quarter of our 2022 race days.

●     Gained nationwide attention at the 2022 Tour of Britain, where our aggressive racing style made us the most-talked-about British team.

●     Welcomed Commonwealth, World and Olympic medallists on the pathway to Paris 2024 and LA 2028.

Perhaps the proudest moment came in 2021, when the Tour of Britain began in Cornwall for the first time. Lining up on home roads against some of the world’s biggest teams was more than just a race start — it was the realisation of a long-held dream to showcase Cornish cycling talent to the world.

Nurturing Future Generations

At the heart of Saint Piran is a commitment to supporting every level of the sport:

●     Feeder Teams – developing men’s and women’s riders ready to step up to professional racing.

●     Women’s Elite Road & Mountain Bike Teams – launched in 2021 to grow the women’s peloton, especially here in the South West.

●     Saint Piran Delivra – the foundation of our pyramid, bringing together amateur racers, social riders and community supporters.

This three-tier structure – from grassroots to elite pros – is what makes Saint Piran unique in professional cycling today.

Who We Are Today

Today, Saint Piran has grown beyond the pro peloton to become a hub for cycling culture in Cornwall — blending racing heritage with world-class retail, servicing, and community riding.

Saint Piran Service Course

We now operate two Saint Piran Service Course stores that bring our racing experience directly to riders:

  1. Buttermarket, Redruth – Flagship Store

Our destination concept store showcasing premium Trek and Cannondale bikes, expert servicing, and a curated selection of clothing, accessories and components.

  2. Mount Ambrose – Outlet & Workshop

Focused on servicing, repairs, and discounted bikes and gear, this location continues the legacy of Bike Chain Ricci, which has served Cornish cyclists for over 25 years.

Saint Piran Café & Bike Hire – Bissoe

Just off the scenic Mineral Tramways Trail between Truro and Falmouth, our Bissoe café has become a favourite stop for locals and visiting cyclists. Serving fresh coffee, cakes and light meals, it also offers bike hire for families, leisure riders and off-road adventurers exploring Cornwall’s trails.

Our Mission

While our roots remain firmly in professional cycling, our goal today is bigger:

To make cycling accessible, inspiring and enjoyable for everyone — from weekend riders to world-class athletes.

By combining elite-level expertise with local community spirit, Saint Piran continues to champion Cornish cycling on every road, trail and podium.
