WHAT ARE WE DOING?

We are already implementing a number of key steps to deliver our road to net zero and social impact plan.
An outline of what we will be doing :

  • We are working with the University of Exeter, leaders on environmental impacts, to understand our carbon footprint and where we can make a significant impact to practically reduce it - outside of merely offsetting.

  • We are exploring the possible transition to the circular economy, supported by the University of Exeter Business School to enable all three Saint Piran teams and community facilities to reduce wastage and enable the reuse and remanufacture of components where feasible. One early example is our broken bike chains provide local businesses with resources to make jewellery. Moving up the value chain consideration is being given to reducing carbon wastage by recycling broken bike frames and forks. This activity includes collaboration with leading wheel and component supplier Pacenti, who support all the wheels across the teams

  • We have written to Cornish Diaspora communities across the World asking for ways Saint Piran and cycling can make a difference including Australia, New Zealand and Canada. This feedback will be shared on this page.

  • We are working with Cornwall Council on sustainability projects including the promotion of cycling as a more sustainable way to travel.

  • Promoting and running amateur women’s racing in the South West of England

  • We have established a community interest company to use cycling to improve lives

  • We have signed up to the Tour of Britain organisers, Sweetspot’s, programme to capture and recycle all gel wrappers in partnership with Enval during races and to work longer-term on other sustainable projects.

  • We are in discussions with car manufacturers to move to a fully hybrid set of vehicles within two years and fully electric when technology and cost allows.

  • We are working with partners and sponsors to embed the same principles and work together to maximise impact.

Richard Pascoe, continued: “There is incredible work out there being done but professional cycling can do so much more and movements like Shift Cycling Culture cannot stand alone in bringing people together.

“There is a role for team owners, riders and the wider movement in cycling to take huge steps forward.  It is our responsibility and the time is now.”

This page will continuously grow as we progress on our journey, along with an annual progress update.
