Ollie Hucks places third at the RTTC National Closed-Circuit Championship.

The results keep coming for Saint Piran

It was third for Ollie Hucks at the RTTC National Closed-Circuit Championship.
A tough day with an aggressive crosswind but with determination and the added motivation of it being Ollie’s last event this year he crossed the line for third! Well done, Ollie.

The race from Ollie’s perspective “National Closed Circuit Champs was held at Thruxton motor circuit on 9th October. After coming second in the open circuit championships earlier this year by only a handful of seconds I was keen to try and get on the top step and claim my first national TT win. I knew I would have to be on top form to do so and so targeted this as my final event of the year. Preparation for it went well, I spent a week on holiday the week leading up to the event arriving back at 3 am the day before so managed to get in a light pre-race ride to get re-acclimatised to the TT position. It’s always a bit of a shock to the system after not riding the TT bike for a week since it feels like I have to fold myself onto the bike, but it’s all in the name of speed. I arrived at Thruxton about 2 hours prior to my start and the wind was very light and reasonably warm. As I got onto the turbo to start warming up the wind really picked up and did so for the remainder of the day. This meant that competitors were met with an aggressive crosswind on the long back side of the course. This meant half of the ride was spent battling against the pedals and half against staying upright. I think the energy expended staying upright took some away from my legs because I was running on fumes for the final two laps. With the added incentive of it being the last event of the year, I gritted my teeth and gave it my all to the line. I was initially a bit gutted because I was slightly off the numbers I had hoped to do but then found out I was third and only half a second off second. This was a bit of a surprise after the sensations in the final few laps but is somewhat motivational to know even not on my best day I can be up there. I always expect my body to be at 110% on race day so maybe the remnants of a hard season began to show in the latter stages but it certainly motivates me to come back again next year”

The whole of Saint Piran would like to congratulate Ollie on this success and wish him a restful off-season.
