Gralloch Gravelking
The Gralloch Gravelking UCI Gravel world series race was a truly international field with over 3000 competitors from 47 countries. From Gatehouse Of Fleet we headed out into the remote and exposed Galloway Forest Park on a 111km loop. After covering 12 miles I needed to stop to tighten up loose bottle cage bolts which forced me to have a reset. I started eating and drinking after only 35 minutes, trying to avoid cramp later on. The Restrap Race Bag meant I could snack on the go. The Schwalbe G-One tyres were ideal for the rough descents and arduous climbs. This event is tough because you’re basically self-sufficient and sometimes don’t see another competitor for miles. Luckily the rain held off for Jez and I, but it was cold at times at 800 feet. We are both happy with our results, Jez Martin taking a chunk of time off last year’s event. What now? The Graean Cymru in September perhaps?
