Primavera Pursuit Road Race

4 team riders took to the proven season opener Primavera chase race in Hatherleigh.

It was Gary's and Jays first race in the Cornish Tartan while Lewis and Gerard have already started their season.

This was a slightly different format to usual race with 4 separate groups starting at 2 minute intervals.

Gary was off first on the front group followed 2 minutes later with Lewis, Jay and Gerard in some very testing conditions; cold, cruel cross winds and heavy rain was on the cards.

The race started well with Gary setting off first and settling into a good pace in his group.

Lewis, Jay and Gerard were working hard but unfortunately couldn't get the group organized meaning they were doing a lot of the work to run and stay away from the Elite and Cat 2 groups chasing them down.

Half way through the first lap the boys caught up to the front group and picked Gary up in the process. At this point it all became very hectic in the peloton. Gary, Jay and Gerard were unfortunately found on the wrong side of the crash. Lewis was at the front at this point and managed to sneak away with 2 other riders.

Lewis pressed on eventually getting caught by the Elites and Cat 2 group managing to latch on and pull some turns. Lewis stayed with this group positioning himself well for a top 10 finish. Unfortunately the cold and wet got the better of Lewis and toward the end of lap 2 he reluctantly pulled the plug and stepped out of the race. Luckily team manager Lucy was there to get him warm and back to HQ in the team car.

Gerard and Jay pushed on finding themselves in between groups both fighting for a top 20 finish.

Gerard chased down a group of 3 finishing with a sprint finish for 15th.

Jay continued to push through and finish in 17th position.

Gary unfortunately had to call it a day due to the cold weather conditions.

A tough day out for the boys but a good starting point. We are just getting started this season and a good bit of practice for the summer season.
