A Jersey is not just a Jersey. Unveiling the Story Behind Saint Piran x Bioracer Jerseys with Team Owner Richard Pascoe
When a cyclist gets onto the starting line, their confidence relies on factors beyond their control: the bike's performance, their nutrition, and even the support of fans.
Then there’s their kit – what they are wearing is their armour as they ride into battle. It needs to keep them warm, keep them cool, make them faster on the bike and therefore feel faster in their mind. Whatever the weather, this level of protection is crucial for them to perform at their best. For us at Saint Piran, there is only one option when it comes to meeting these needs, and that’s Bioracer.
A cyclist’s race doesn’t begin on the start line. It starts weeks and months before, when we are working with our riders to source the finest kit available. At Saint Piran Pro Cycling, we are incredibly lucky to work with World Champions, Olympians and some of the finest emerging talent in the world across road, mountain bike, cyclocross and gravel riding. Our riders aspire to win, and we need to prepare them for battle against those they race, the elements, and their own thoughts. We achieve this with Bioracer, a brand we have come to rely on.
Starting out this season, we have worked tirelessly to prepare our riders with everything they need. As a multi-discipline team, we need a kit manufacturer that not only understands those start line pressures but also the need for riders to feel comfortable on and off-road. We of course devote time to selecting the right bikes and optimising nutrition, but our riders train relentlessly in rain, wind, snow or even occasional sunshine – that’s why we place such an emphasis on the kit they wear, which is anchored by Bioracer in our unique and stunning all-black kit.
It’s rare you can say a black kit stands out in the peloton, but Saint Piran's does. We are unique within the professional cycling world as our jersey does not feature any sponsor logos or advertising. The black background and distinctive white lettering mirror the style of the Cornish flag, while the sleeve is adorned with Cornish tartan, each colour bearing its own significance or meaning.
Bioracer’s Epic jersey is the most comfortable out there; it truly feels like a second skin - exceptionally comfortable and irreplaceable to our riders. In racing, and indeed leisure riding, comfort is essential. Bioracer’s latest chamois bib shorts are seamless with contour fit, meaning they perform in the best and worst of conditions.
As cyclists endure long hours on unforgiving saddles, finding the right shorts is crucial. Thankfully, the Epic Pro Bib Shorts are remarkable in their fit and unique chamois, allowing our riders to train for long periods at a time and to race knowing that they won’t suffer for their sport.
Our partnership with Bioracer doesn’t stop with our elite and professional teams. At Saint Piran, we also run bike shops and hire centres in Cornwall, UK, where thousands of global visitors grace our shores each year. The appeal of the different Bioracer kits is easy to see, with the professional ‘Epic’ level kit and our ‘Icon’ kit selling well to both visitors to our stores but also customers who place online orders from Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the US.
We are now working with Bioracer to develop bespoke kits for leisure and elite riders, with special limited-edition designs. Thanks to our partnership, those visiting our online shop or Cornwall locations can choose from any number of designs to support their riding.
With the Tour of Britain ahead of us, I know those wearing our kit whilst riding their bikes in forests, on roads, and on tracks will share common goals with our six riders on the start line - by wearing Bioracer, they have the best chance of achieving them.
And finally, here is our Cornish slant on it: ‘dear is cheap and cheap is dear’ is a local expression. Think about that for a minute and then ask yourself how much you love your sport. If you love it, Bioracer is a perfect fit.
