Eight Saint Piran riders named in prestigious cycling 2023 World Championships

Eight riders from the South West’s Saint Piran Cycling teams have been selected to ride for Team GB at 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships, the highest level of the sport. This is a first for the team and region.

Local cyclists Will Tidball (Devon), Sharn Hooper (Somerset) and seven of their teammates in the South West-based Saint Piran teams have been called up for Team GB for the upcoming 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships held in Glasgow from the 3rd - 13th of August 2023. Saint Piran has one of the largest contingent of riders in the GB team with more numbers than many World Tour teams. Riders will represent GB in a range of track, road, mountain bike and para disciplines.

Representing your country at the international level is a great honor and an incredible opportunity to compete among the world's best cyclists. Those selected Saint Piran riders will have the privilege of wearing the prestigious GB jersey and will join forces with other talented GB riders such as Katy Marchant, Fin Graham, Evie Richards, Ethan Hayter and Fred Wright to achieve even greater success on the global stage.

The selection of eight Saint Piran to ride for GB is a testament to their hard work, perseverance, and unwavering commitment to the sport and also the team's support and dedication to nurturing young talent.

Team Owner Richard Pascoe said “Saint Piran is delighted that six riders from our squad are representing GB at the World Championships in Glasgow. One of the highest levels a rider can ride out during his career. We are delighted to be part of that process and journey.

“It’s an immense source of pride, and testament to the hard work of all our staff in the team and the South West development. Will Tidball will be representing Devon with coaching teams from across the region will be attending with our riders. ”

North’s Devon’s Jenny Bolsom, Saint Piran’s women’s team manager is immensely proud of this step up with Christina and Sharn from the mountain bike team travelling to Glasgow. She said: “I am so incredibly proud of these two! They have both worked so hard this year on fitness and technical ability and it’s paid off. Our team has gone from strength to strength this year and as we round off the season we’re so proud to be able to say that 50% of our team has qualified for the World Championships, what an achievement!

“We’re so proud that as a team we are able to support our riders as they pull on the kit of Great Britain and even more so with the World Champs being held here in the UK! As team manager and also one of their teammates, I was the first to put my hand up to support and hand up bottles and I can’t wait to cheer the girls around the MTB XCM course.”
