Jacob Hennessy Joins Saint Piran
We are delighted to announce that Jacob Hennessy has joined Saint Piran from UCI Continental team, Canyon dhb SunGod.
The 24-year-old is a past winner of the under-23 Gent Wevelgem (in 2017), took a sixth place in the first stage of the 2018 Dubai Tour – mixing it with some of the world’s best sprinters - and won the Tour de Yorkshire Mountains classification in 2019. He also spent 18 months with Team GB in 2016/17.
Saint Piran Team Principal, Richard Pascoe said:
“Canyon dhb SunGod is a model of professionalism within the UK peloton and Tim Elverson (Team Owner and Directeur Sportif) has done an amazing job at the helm. I would certainly like to model Saint Piran around his impressive palmares and race programme.
The UK professional scene needs security. We are happy to know we have a major commercial partner for the next three years and this was part of Jacob’s decision to join us. Saint Piran is also setting up a mountain bike platform, a project that Jacob will be heading up.”
Tim Elverson said:
“I have personally nurtured Jacob’s development and this is a natural step for him. Letting a rider go who is such a consummate professional is hard. However, Canyon Dhb/Sungod and Saint Piran share the same values. We can all sit down together with a beer after events - something that is crucial in our sport. “
Jacob added:
“I am very grateful to Tim and Canyon dhb SunGod and this is a continuation of what they have started. Saint Piran have given me a two year minimum contract and, having just returned to the UK, I need the security of knowing that myself and Keira are part of a project that furthers my ambitions.
Within Saint Piran I will mentor the performance team (consisting of James Bevan, Michael Gill and Ollie Hennessy), an exciting project that gives me a chance to work with young riders who are looking to get into the Conti team.
I will also be setting up Saint Piran’s Mountain Bike team, which is exciting as I have ambitions around racing off-road.”
Steve Lampier, Saint Piran’s senior pro, commented:
“Jacob brings a lot of experience and firepower - something we are looking forward to. I’ve always said that that my door is open for any up-and-coming rider and, funnily enough, I spoke to Jacob seven years ago. And now he is part of Saint Piran. We are looking forward to getting the season underway with him in our team.”
