Lampier returns to racing with a win!

In a remarkable achievement, Steve Lampier, who was involved in a potentially life-threatening accident less than four months ago, has won his comeback race.

This was a double celebration for Saint Piran, who recently welcomed Steve back into the fold, because the event was our very own 10 mile time trial .

Last weekend’s event, organised by grassroots-to-elite pathway team Saint Piran, was a huge success and was the largest open TT in recent years, with 116 entries competing on the Ladock course.

Event organiser Tom Cox, part of the Saint Piran event management team, said;

“Naturally we were delighted with how the event went in terms of organisation and support. But to have Steve win it was the icing on the cake. Steve’s winning time of 20:15 means that he averaged almost 30 mph, which is pretty amazing considering he wasn’t even walking only a few weeks ago and is a testament to his residence as an athlete.”

Steve Lampier said;

“I was nervous today, for the first time in years at a local event .There’s always the worry about performance, but equally I wanted to repay the faith shown in me by Saint Piran. Thankfully I delivered.”

The event also saw Saint Piran giving the opportunity for guest rides by some new racers, enabling them to enjoy a return to competition.

Team Principal, Richard Pascoe said;

“We’re delighted with what our event management team pulled off in terms of organisation. On a personal note, it was so good to see my father Len Pascoe marshalling on a roundabout with his lifetime friends Ian Mathews and David Sheppard. They have a combined age of 215!  Cynthia Hennessey and Rosemary Bishop were great on the admin side, something any professional team needs, and overall the event was a triumph for the officials.”

We’re looking forward to our next event, a unique two-stage hill-climb based at Bike Chain Bissoe Café near Truro in October.

Early entry is recommended. Details of the event can be found HERE and riders can enter HERE
