RIDING STYLE: MTB Cross Country (XCC, XCO, XCM), Cyclocross (CX)
BIO
Like most people, I learnt to ride as a kid (thanks Grandad) and rode for fun or for transport, but I was never particularly competitive growing up, it just wasn’t on my radar. Over the years I’ve switched primary sport between cycling, surfing, snowboarding, white-water kayaking, climbing or sailing (and a short, misguided flirtation with Triathlon), and a lot of this was governed by where I lived. Since moving back to Cornwall I’ve not just re-engaged with offroad cycling, I’ve got back into it with a passion. Initially just for fun with friends, but when your friends race, you inevitably do too, and I’ve been racing with friends under a couple of different banners over recent years. For me, cycling has been a progressive spiral of achievement – the more you ride, the better you get, the bigger your goals, and this just keeps building season on season. When I started racing, I just wanted to get round without blacking out or crashing badly, now I want to win (within reason).
And that’s where Saint Piran come into the picture. I knew the set-up, I live 5 minutes away from team HQ, and I’d chatted with various of the team riders or staff at races. A quick conversation with Ricci and Jenny and in the spring of 2024 I signed on to 05/03. Since then, it’s been a very rapid progression; the first summer XC season I travelled with the Aventur MTB team and learnt so much about how to operate in a more Pro set-up. Suddenly I had a pit crew and a mechanic (instead or bodging it myself and running out of drink mid race) and even though they were all younger than me, the women in the team all had more Elite level race experience than I did so taught me a lot. Having access to top end equipment and coaching linked to Saint Piran has also been game changing. Winter 2024, Spring 2025 brought some of my best XC and CX results at the biggest races I’ve ever been to.
