Saint Piran announce the contract extension of GB Olympic cyclist Charlie Tanfield
Cornish pro cycling team Saint Piran has re-signed Commonwealth Champion and Olympic cyclist Charlie Tanfield as the next step in the team’s exciting plans for 2024 and beyond.
The contract extension of Charlie Tanfield is the first rider announcement for the Saint Piran Cycling Group, as it puts in place a series of exciting changes to its programme for the 2024 season. With a men’s and women’s road race programme, a newly relaunched offroad programme, and a range of community events in the planning, next year will see even greater success for the Cornwall-based professional cycling group.
Team Owner Richard Pascoe sees the extension of Charlie's contract as an important step in Saint Piran’s 2024 journey, and an valuable opportunity to provide a solid foundation of support for Charlie, a potential Paris Olympian.
“Charlie Tanfield is one of Britain’s most talented pursuit riders. He recently had a massive crash in the World Cycling Championships after four years of hard work around the Olympic cycle.
“It’s times like these that you need your team to put their arms around you and remind you that you are world-class. Our commitment to our country, Team GB, and its riders is total. An early indication of support gives the rider a guaranteed position in our squad for 2024.
“Looking back over the past 12 months, there have been many individual successes for Charlie in time trials and, of course, he became the Individual Pursuit National Champion wearing the Saint Piran colours earlier this year.”
Charlie continues to train and race for Saint Piran Pro Cycling Men’s UCI Team while also competing for Great Britain on the track. Charlie continues to target the Paris Olympics in 2024.
Charlie Tanfield added “It feels great to have the backing of the Saint Piran team for another season. It’s a top set-up and environment for me to achieve my goals for next year.”
Charlie has been a key part of the Saint Piran team, with a range of wins in the UK and abroad this year. Charlie became National Champion in both the Individual and Team Pursuit in the Saint Piran jersey, whilst actively playing a key role in the team's clean sweep at the Rapha Lincoln Grand Prix and Lancaster GP. Charlie has also represented Team GB throughout the year, with the highlight being a silver medal in the Team Pursuit at the 2023 European Championship.
