Race Preparation - The Brutal

Jude is competing in The Brutal in September and the event website doesn’t pull any punches.

This is 'The World's Toughest Triathlon' (as voted for by 220 Triathlon in 2017). The Brutal Triathlon — Brutal Events

In my build up to taking part in the Brutal Triathlon, I spent a few days away in North Wales , riding  laps of the bike course , running up the mountain , swimming in the lake and also fitting in some rest days .

The bike lap takes in the Pen y Pass , climbing steadily until the beautiful, fast , smooth but oh too short descent back into Llanberris, not sure how much my legs will enjoy it 4 times on race day though.

Running up the mountain was just simply fun, I opened the gate to the main Llanberris path at about 6am and was on the summit 55 minutes later , it was quite busy but the view was spectacular, the ” jog “  back down took about 45 minutes with the main aim being just to stay on my feet .

Swimming in the lake , what a change from sea swimming , warm , flat water , topped of with a waterside sauna .

I’m sure it will be very different in September when the weather most definitely won’t be so baking hot , the sky so blue or the wind non existent.
