Ed Laverack departs Saint Piran
Ed Laverack has informed Saint Piran of his decision to leave the team.
The last few months have obviously been challenging for everyone in cycling, and the lack of racing due to the Covid crisis has caused Ed to redefine his priorities in the sport. Ed is, of course, the current UK National Hill Climb Champion and he is choosing to direct his energies to representing that jersey for the remainder of his tenure. He says:
“The pandemic opened my mind to what I’d like to experiment with over the near future in cycling. With so much uncertainty around racing, I need to set my sights on some specific targets. I’m not the type of rider that can split his focus or spin multiple plates and I just need to focus on being competitive in what I have been offered for the remainder of the year.”
Ed will be competing in hill climbs in the UK when the competition schedule resumes and also has his sights set on international competitions and events in the mountains, specifically, “The Tour de Stations UltraFondo in August, the Marmotte Alps with the Alpe d’Huez Hill Climb in September and the Taiwan KOM is on the cards.”
This is clearly a very different trajectory to that of Saint Piran as a team, so a parting of the ways is the right solution for everyone.
Ed has enjoyed his time with the team and says:
“I want to emphasis how understanding the Saint Piran management and riders have been with regard to my decision to explore different avenues. They have helped me make this decision and I will be forever grateful for the part they have played during this time.”
Saint Piran Team Principal, Richard Pascoe commented:
“We’ve enjoyed having Ed as part of Saint Piran. We absolutely respect his decision and we all wish him a long and successful future in cycling, wherever it takes him.”
