SAINT PIRAN PROUD TO ANNOUNCE 05/03

SAINT PIRAN IS DELIGHTED TO ANNOUNCE THE LAUNCH OF 05/03, A TEAM THAT WILL FOCUS ON DEVELOPING YOUNG, PRIMARILY CORNISH, TALENT, AND PROVIDING A PATHWAY TO THE HIGHEST LEVELS OF COMPETITIVE CYCLING.

The team is named in honour of Cornwall’s patron saint - 5th March (05/03) is St Piran’s Day – and is a direct feeder to Saint Piran Pro Cycling. As a predominantly U23 team, 05/03 is committed to developing and transforming young British talent, with a particular focus on Cornish athletes.

The aim is to inspire the next generation of riders, taking them from raw talent to higher levels of the sport.

The team will have a busy 2022 race calendar, provisionally including:

- National Road Series (7 events from May to September)

- The Tour Series (6 events in June / July)

- HSBC National Road, TT and Circuit championhips

- Multiple National B’s across the UK, including the three rounds of the Proper Northern Race Series

- National track championships (March)

The establishment of 05/03 comes on the heels of Saint Piran’s successful step up to Continental level in 2021, a season that cultivated in participation in the Tour of Britain in September.

With the Conti team attracting some of the UK’s best riders, there is a need to bridge the gap between developing Cornish riders and the Continental roster. So 05/03, will act as a stepping-stone for local riders to develop and learn the skills and race craft required to compete at the top level.

Under the watchful eye of Cornwall’s most successful rider, Steve Lampier, 05/03 will be the proving ground for the next generation of ambitious Cornish riders.

The team will ride Swift bikes for the 2022 season, and the Hypervox and Racevox models will be pivotal to our success on the road. The bikes will be paired with Picco 46 wheels, hand-built in Devon by Pacenti Cycle Design. Working with a company just a stone’s throw from Cornwall makes this partnership a sustainable one for the future of the team. The precision and care these wheels are built with outdo any others on the market.
