Amazing crowds will live long in the memory on the streets of Nottinghamshire
It was the crowds that stole the show on the roads of Nottinghamshire today on stage four of the Tour of Britain as the race took on another day for the fast men.
The media team took to the roads of today's stage to do the regular handing out of Saint Piran flags as well as Tribute Ale socks and lanyards. Every stage has had incredible crowds but we had some amazing moments today that will live long in the memory of staff and riders.
The second King of the Mountain point of the day was packed with fans. The media team and team owner Richard Pascoe handed out hundreds of flags, socks and lanyards to the excited fans. Crowds lined the streets, cheering for the team in black and white, waving Kernow flags and drinking Tribute and Rattler (age appropriate obviously)! Pub goers, school children and those reclined on loungers lined the streets, there were massive crowds in every town and village.
At the fan zone, our mobile shop has been doing great business as well as getting plenty of entries to our Saint Piran competition where you can win £1000s worth of prizes.
One of the things everyone wanted to talk about was THAT team attack from yesterday's stage in East Yorkshire. So many fans of cycling wanted to know more about the team and what we're about. There is always time to just have a chat about racing.
Onto the racing from today. It was another exceptionally hot day for any time of year in the UK, nevermind September! A break of three went up the road and took all the points in the intermediate sprints and KoMs with the peloton controlling the gap.
It came down to a sprint and Olav Kooij was, once again, the winner. Our best placed rider was Harry Birchill who finished in 19th place. All the Saint Piran lads finished in the bunch.
Harry Birchill gave his view of the stage: "Today was a pretty boring day to be fair. It was going so easy. So, we just took up a good position. In fairness, it kicked off a bit at the start, but closed down pretty quickly. I just tried to put Will (Tidball) into a good position but there was a dodgy right hander and we ended up on the pavement, which pushed us back. Will said go for yourself, so I did what I could at the end. A nice, warm day out."
