Saint Piran women’s race team: race report - Colne crit

The National Crit Series came to a conclusion on Wednesday with the signal round being held at Colne. It was yet another tough race for the team. Unfortunately, the newest signing Ailsa, who has just been promoted from 05/03, had to race in her 0503 kit due to an entry cut-off date rule and Rebecca was struggling with a head cold and so opted to not start.

Team Manager David Walters said “A sense of deja vu! On such a tight, technical circuit that included cobbles, the start was always to be critical. Hannah made a very good start, from a lowly grid position to midfield pretty quickly, however, the lead group of 24 had split from the 2nd and 3rd groups. Hannah tried as she might to bridge across, but got stuck in no-woman's land and got re-absorbed into the 2nd group. A fine, gutsy 29th for Hannah, with Anna 48th and Ailsa Mclagan, stepping up form the 05/03 squad a good 45th in only her 2nd National Series event”

Alisia added “It was a really fun race, the atmosphere on the course was amazing! We all had our work cut out from the start being gridded at the back. The course was tight and technical, making it hard to move up. The total lack of elevation didn’t suit me particularly well, but I got stuck in and learnt loads throughout the race - this was my first experience of riding on cobbles. Hannah had a great ride working her way up the bunch to finish 29th. Anna and I were in the next group back having missed the split, I came over the line in 45th and Anna was 48th’

The Saint Piran Women’s race team is now nearing the end of the season now with just a few races remaining, the next one being Ryedale GP, the next round in the National RR series.
