Saint Piran sign two exciting new riders
Saint Piran are pleased to announce the signing of two exciting young British riders as stagiaires for the remainder of 2022. Harry Birchill (21) and Jack Rootkin-Gray (19) have moved from the British Cycling U23 Programme to our men’s Saint Piran UCI Continental team.
Both cyclists fit the profile of Saint Piran perfectly. Saint Piran supports a growing cross discipline cycling programme for its riders in mountain biking, gravel, cross and road, competing across Europe at UCI level. Whilst also boasting a strong women’s British Elite Development team and 0503 feeder team.
As a team, we are committed to nurturing young talent, both in our talent pathway and our supporting businesses.
Steve Lampier, our Sports Director said: “Being a South-West rider I’ve followed Harry’s progress over the last five years both on and off-road. Each year he’s getting stronger and faster. His performances on the road have solely until now been more for MTB training. With a dedicated race program, we can develop him further. Jack has impressed me many times this season, always present at the sharp end. His performance at the recent Kreiz Breizh Elites in France showed he can be there at the end of a hard race competing. These are very exciting times for all involved.”
In an important step for the rest of the season, having already signed three new riders in recent weeks - National Road Championship bronze medalist Alex Richardson, Adelaidian Cooper Sayers and Walsall-born Adam Lewis.
Team owner Richard Pascoe sees the new riders as an important step in Saint Piran’s journey: “We have a strong blend of young and experienced riders. A great combination to help our younger riders develop and to inspire others to get on a bike, maybe for the first time. It is important to us that we constantly live our values - to let cycling inspire and have impact. Signing riders who race track, gravel, cross and MTB is important because your first bike does not have to have drop handlebars. We will continue to encourage everyone we meet to get on two wheels. Regardless of where they ride them.”
The first race in the black and white jerseys for both Harry and Jack will be the Ryedale Grand Prix on Sunday 21st August. Saint Piran Pro Cycling will be lining up for the Tour of Britain in September.
