Holohan Joins Saint Piran as Performance Director
With the step up to UCI Continental status this season, Saint Piran has been strengthening its team both on and off the road. The latest step in the process is the addition of former UCI pro road cyclist, Liam Holohan, as Performance Director.
Liam draws on a decade of international racing experience. He started his professional career with the Rapha Condor team in 2009, before retiring from international racing in 2016 with Team Wiggins.
Liam has a deep interest in physiology and psychology, and top-level coaching qualifications from the Association of British Cycle Coaches, British Cycling and Training Peaks. Now working towards a degree in Sports and Exercise Science, on top of his wealth of experience on the road, he brings a scientific, evidence-based approach to the team.
Liam will combine his role as Performance Director with that of Directeur Sportif (DS) on race days. He says
“My role within with team will be to help the riders develop and make tactical decisions on the road. The two roles work hand in hand, as knowing the riders abilities, we can exploit them to our advantage.
Another example of how the two roles cross over is the idea that 'events demand analysis'. It’s essential to know what is required from a training perspective as the rider must meet the demands of the event. This knowledge can then be applied to the DS role to understand better how the race may play out.”
He is very much looking forward to working closely with the Saint Piran riders and says that:
“My goal for the season is to enable riders to achieve their potential. It's incredibly gratifying to play a small part in the results of the team.”
Saint Piran is delighted to have Liam on board, another important step to fulfilling our ambitions for the team in 2021 and beyond.
