Top 10 finishes for Jenson and Ollie in Leicestershire TT

Saint Piran’s Young, Maxwell and Ellis were in TT action over the weekend

Preparations for the season’s big races continue, with three Saint Piran riders in action in the Midlands on Sunday. The Leicestershire Hilly TT is an annual event, staged on a 27.2-mile course, with riders competing on road bikes rather than specialist time-trial machines.

Out of a very strong field of 85 starters, Jenson Young finished 6th in a time of 1:02:30, just 2:45 behind the winner, and coming in as the second-placed U23 rider. Team-mate Ollie Maxwell was 9th, just 29 seconds behind Jenson, while Matt Ellis came in 25th in a time of 1:07:40.

Jenson commented:

“I’m Really pleased with how it went, having not done a TT over more than 10 miles before. I also haven’t done any big efforts like this yet this year so I didn’t know how I would feel.

Being quite a punchy rider, I think the hilly rolling course suited me well and it felt like I got the pacing right. I can’t complain about finishing 6th in a stacked field with some big hitters, and I was delighted to be the second-placed U23 rider.”

Ollie said:

“A solid 27-mile circuit on my local roads with family and friends out watching - so a bit of pressure on me to do well! I’ve never done this sort of event so was in the unknown, but all I knew was that I just had to go hard for an hour. I rode to a decent power and speed and tried to keep as aero as possible.

It was the first real test of my legs for this season and the numbers are there for sure, so I’m excited to get going for more to come!“
