Iwan Evans Is Saint Piran’s Second 2021 Signing
Saint Piran is delighted to announce the signing of Iwan Evans for the 2021 season.
The promising 18-year-old hails from Builth Wells in mid Wales and has ridden for the Welsh youth/junior programmes for several years. Notable results on home soil include a 7th place in the Monmouth GP Junior National in 2019 and an 8th place on stage 3 of the notoriously demanding Junior Tour of Wales in the same year.
Iwan’s ambition is reflected in his decision to join Dutch team Wielerzone Nederland for the 2020 season, and although racing was curtailed by Covid-19, he returned from Holland with some valuable experience. He participated in the Sint-Martinusprijs Kontich stage race, coming in 7th on stage 2 and picked up 4th and 7th place finishes respectively in the Passendale Kermesse and the Kester Kermesse in Belgium.
Iwan commented:
"As a first year senior/u23 rider, I can’t wait to learn from the other Saint Piran riders and prove myself. I'm still young, so I will take in all the information I can from the older guys on the team. The more experience I get, the more I will learn about what races I can focus on. Being primarily a sprinter, I know that the flatter finishes will be more the races for me to target."
Iwan points to Manx sprinter, Mark Cavendish, as an inspiration:
“Despite being a small man, he’s still bullied his way into winning big races. That shows I don't have to be the biggest rider in the peloton to win the sprint. I've always been a massive fan - maybe this year I will be lucky enough to race him!”
Welcome to Saint Piran, Iwan.
